Our City of Mission Mayor and City Council proclaim November 19th as “Great American Smoke out Day” in Mission. The Tobacco Prevention & Control Coalition in Hidalgo County is partnering with the American Cancer Society – RGV to raise awareness for the annual “Great American Smokeout.” The event is aimed at the 42 million Americans who currently smoke. They are encouraged to quit smoking — for at least ONE day. The City of Mission supports the effort and hopes it will deliver awareness in our community about the dangers of smoking. We love it when residents send us photos of dogs they adopted through our City of Mission Adopt-A-Pet Program. Thank you for giving “Wendy” a forever home! Our City of Mission’s Shary Golf Course hosted the annual Superintendent’s Golf Tournament. Thank you to all of the participants who helped raise money for Mission CISD’s Education Foundation. Congratulations to the 37 men and women who graduated from the 183rd Basic Peace Officer Academy in Mission! The 9 month Academy is a parnership between the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council and the City of Mission. The cadets will fill law enforcement positions across the Valley. The City of Mission recognized Members of our City Advisory Boards. Advisory Board Members volunteer their time to better serve the community, and we thank them for their dedication. Our City of Mission Adopt-A-Pet Program would like to say “Thank You” to Mission residents Richard and Lucy Gonzalez for rescuing Lady! Because of their kindness, “Lady” now has a forever home. We had a great time at the National Butterfly Center in Mission during Community Day! Community members toured more than 70 acres and saw thousands of butterflies – After all, the Rio Grande Valley is said to have more butterflies than anywhere else in the United States! We had a great time at Mission Regional Medical Center’s Halloween Safety Fair! Our Mission Crimestopper, Officer Tipster, was quite the hit! In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, our City of Mission Employees dressed in pink camouflage to join the fight against breast cancer! Our Speer Memorial Library is featuring the artwork of artist Toni Hudson inside the Library’s Community Room. The art exhibit will be on display until the end of March. Viewing is free and open to the public. Enjoy! Mission Crime Stoppers, and their new Officer Tipster, made a stop at Mission CISD’s Marcell Elementary as part of Red Ribbon Week and Mission’s mission to teach kids about the dangers of drugs, alcohol and violence. It was fun for the entire family at the Mission High School Trunk or Treat! Join us again on Halloween Saturday (6pm-9pm), at our Mission Parks and Rec for our City of Mission Family Festival! Our Mission Police Department increases its fleet by five! City leaders unveiled the five new Tahoes our officers will now have to better protect and serve our great community. Our Mayor and City Council receive a gift of appreciation from Mayor David Gustavo Flores Lavenant of our Sister City – Francisco I. Madero, Coahuila, Mexico. The “Asociacion de Ciudades Hermanas de Americas A.C.,” whose members come from the Mexican states of Guanajuato, Jalisco, and Coahuila, chose to hold its Board of Director’s Meeting in the City of Mission. Mission is honored to have been chosen as the Host City. Our Mission Crime Stoppers completed the 27th Annual Texas Crime Stoppers Conference in Brownsville. It was a great opportunity for our Mission Crime Stoppers to learn about the latest updates on laws, get fundraising ideas, and network with other Crime Stoppers organizations througout the Valley. Our Speer Memorial Library held its annual Halloween Costume Contest. ‹ Previous«5152535455»Next ›
