Norie Gonzalez Garza was elected Mayor in 2022. Mayor Garza is a lifelong resident of Mission, graduated from Mission High School in 1977, and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from then Pan American University in 1981.

Mayor Garza was first elected to the Mission City Council in 2007 having served in that capacity until May 2022, she served as Mayor Pro Tem from 2012 to 2020. Mayor Garza is the broker/ owner of a real estate brokerage agency since 1991 and manages other personal business ventures.

Mayor Garza has served as a member of the Planning and Zoning Commission, the Financial Advisory Committee, the Complete Count Committee, the Boys and Girls of Mission Board of Directors, the Agape Christian School Board of Directors, and the Texas Citrus Fiesta Board of Directors. Mayor Garza served as interim Justice of the Peace for Precinct 3. Prior to becoming a councilwoman, Mayor Garza served three terms as a Mission Consolidated Independent School District Board Trustee.

Currently, Mayor Garza is a member of the Amigos Del Valle, Inc. Board of Directors, serving as Treasurer, Lower Rio Grande Development Council, RGV Metropolitan Planning Organization, Mission Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors, Anzalduas Bridge Board of Directors serving as Vice Chairman, Mission Chamber of Commerce and Tropical Texas Behavioral Health Board of Trustees. In addition, Garza is a member of the National Association of Realtors and the Greater McAllen Association of Realtors serving as a member of the Political Action Committee.

Mayor Garza is committed to increasing economic development and improving the quality of life for all residents by collaborating with local and state leaders.
