City Council Meeting 03/26/2018 Our Mission Crime Stoppers held its annual Bowling Tournament to benefit the Amanda Longoria Scholarship Fund. Thank you to all of the participants – it was great fun, for a great cause! Our Boys and Girls Club of Mission held its 2018 Spring Baseball/Softball Opening Ceremony at Mission High School’s Leo Najo Baseball field! We wish the players, coaches, parents and staff a great season! Following the Ribbon Cutting of our Mission Event City, the City of Mission held its first event at the facility – with a Retirement Ceremony to honor two of Mission’s Finest: Mission Fire Deputy Chief Ricardo Balderas for his 35 years of service, and Mission Police Assistant Chief Jose A. “Tony” Garcia for his 36 years of service! We thank each of our Mission Chiefs for dedicating their life service to our City and citizens! We have a gallery of photos from the Ribbon Cutting held at our new 40,000-square-foot state of the art City of Mission Event Center located at 200 N. Shary Rd. The new facility will serve as a magnet to bring more development and new exciting events to our City! The City of Mission Mayor and City Council designate the month of April as: “FAIR HOUSING MONTH – 50 YEARS OF OPENING DOORS” and April 2 – 6 as: “NATIONAL COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WEEK – CELEBRATING THE SUCCESS OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANTS.” The Easter Bunny dropped by our Speer Memorial Library to take pictures with the kids! City Council Meeting 02/26/2018 Our Boys and Girls Club of Mission celebrated Women’s History Month with a Press for Progress Event! Thank you to the motivational female community leaders who volunteered their time to empower our young ladies to Press for Progress! Trent Bishop, the Reigning King Citrus, took visitors to our Mission Historical Museum on a journey through the RGV’s Citrus Industry. Check out these before/after pictures of two of our Mission Pawsible Pets! Thanks to rescue organizations, the first dog is now living with its furever family in New York, and the second dog is living with its furever family in Wisconsin! Over the past two days, rescue groups have taken 22 of our Mission Pawsible Pets to place them in homes across the country! We are so grateful to all of our rescue groups. Rescued is our favorite breed. The City of Mission held a Promotional Pinning Ceremony for two of our Mission Fire Fighters. Congratulations to Mission Fire Fighter Frank Guerra on his promotion to Lieutenant and to George Abraham Balderas on becoming a Mission Fire Fighter! Join us in Mission for a Benefit Concert to help our Mission Firefighter, Lt. Homer Salinas! Saturday, March 24th, from 5PM to 1AM, at Spaugy’s Ice House! Our Mayor Beto Salinas and Mission City Council declared the week of March 11th – 17th as “Girl Scout Week” in Mission! We applaud the commitment Girl Scouting and the Girl Scouts of Greater South Texas Troops 196, 212, 219, 378, 1030, 1042, 1065, and Girl Scouts Mission Service Unit have made to support the continued advancement of girls in their roles as leaders in the City of Mission! “We have more people coming into the kennels than we have ever had before.” – Mission Health Department Supervisor Ernie Zapata.
