The City of Mission Mayor and City Council declare August 2nd as National Night Out in Mission, and invite the community to join our Mission Police Department for the “21st Annual Night Out Fight Against Crime” at our Leo Peña Placita Park (W. 8th St and Conway) from 6pm-10pm. “Everyone we hired has a job to do.” – Our Mayor Beto Salinas talks about the Park Task Force Mission created to focus on taking care of our 26 City of Mission Parks: “We want those parks to look very, very nice for our Community.” Our Speer Memorial Library held its End of the Summer Reading Program Party! Thank you to the many parents who encouraged participation in our Summer Reading Program and sparked interest in their child’s love of reading and education! And, thank you to the Mission Police Department and its Police Explorer Program for providing a safe and fun environment for our children! Our Mayor Beto Salinas spoke with 6 new City of Mission Parks and Recreation employees. The employees have been tasked with maintaining and improving the condition and infrastructure of our City of Mission Parks. Thank you to the citizens who came to show support to our Mission Police Officers during “Mission Police Appreciation Day” at Renee’s of Sharyland! The City of Mission has another butterfly on display – thanks to the Upper Valley Art League! This one, painted by our Speer Memorial Library Staff, is at the Library entrance. UVAL created the beautiful butterfly structures that are being placed throughout the City. Our Mission Firefighters and Mission Police Officers competed in a friendly game of softball! Our City of Mission Fire Department held its second Mission CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) class, graduating 8 citizens who are now CERT certified and prepared to make themselves and our community more resilient to disasters. Mission Fire Chief Rene Lopez, Jr. plans to hold these classes every 6 months. Mission TX – Mission Police Department – Pinning Ceremony Kids taking part in our Speer Memorial Library’s Summer Reading Program learned about Motorcycle Safety. The Mission Police Department held a Pinning Ceremony for 12 new police officers! Congratulations to the officers! We wish them safe and successful careers as they work to serve and protect and our citizens! Mission City Councilwoman Jessica Ortega-Ochoa welcomed residents to Thursday’s Movies on the Lawn at our Mission Historical Museum.
