Our Mission Historical Museum held an intriguing oral history presentation with Dr. David Bowles, as he spoke about Valley myths and folklore! Residents met our local law enforcement and US Border Patrol officers at McCoy’s and enjoyed face-painting, a dunking booth, BBQ and more – all while helping to support the Boys and Girls Club of Mission! The Governor-Elect of Tamaulipas visits the City of Mission. Former Professional Basketball Player and UTPA standout, Mire Chatman, made an appearance at our Mission Parks and Rec! Chatman helped teach basketball skills to the kids in our Boys and Girls Club of Mission’s basketball camp! Thank you to Foy’s Supermarket for donating basketballs! Through fundraising efforts, the Mission Police Association Local # 293 and Mission Heroes Organization raised money to help the mothers of two police officers injured in the May 14th Laredo bus accident. The Police Association gave checks of $3,500 to Maria Araceli Lopez and America Zamora Cerda, and the Mission Heroes Organization gave checks of $500. We hope the donations will be of great benefit to the mothers on their road to recovery. Congratulations to the most recent recipients of the MISSION HEROES Scholarship! Mission Heroes provides scholarships to immediate family members of our Mission Police Officers and Firefighters. We wish these young family members success in their future endeavors! Children had a great time with crafts at our Speer Memorial Library! Parents, register your kids for the Summer Reading Program at 580-8750. Mission Mayor Beto Salinas, along with the Mayors of McAllen and Hidalgo, met with the new Governor of Tamaulipas – Francisco Javier Garcia Cabeza de Vaca. The leaders are discussing ways to better work together to benefit both sides of the border. Mission City Council Meeting 06/13/2016 Mission Mayor Beto Salinas and Mission City Council recognized the many volunteers and agencies involved in our recent disaster relief efforts – presenting H-E-B, American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Mission Rotary Club, Herbalife, Texas Regional Bank, Foys Supermarket, Sams Club and AEP with an appreciation plaque for their unwavering support to the affected families during disaster recovery efforts following the storm that caused major damages in the City of Mission.
