Our Mission Mayor and City Council recognized Sharyland ISD Athletic Director and Mission Native, Coach Richard Thompson. The longtime Sharyland Coach was recently inducted into the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association’s “Hall of Honor!” The City of Mission would like to thank Coach Richard Thompson for his 35 years of service, and congratulate him for his induction into the “Hall of Honor.” Our Mayor and City Council recognized our Parks and Rec’s TAAF Athletes. 92 Mission boys and girls advanced to state competition in track, tennis and swimming and represented the City of Mission in this year’s TAAF Games of Texas 2015, in College Station. Congratulations, to all of the athletes for representing their City well! We are so proud of our community coming together to make the Back to School Bash a success! Hundreds and hundreds of Mission children will now have school supplies as they head into the new school year! Thank you to all of the volunteers and to everyone who donated! Our Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce held an informative Buenas Tardes Luncheon, featuring local superintendents. We enjoyed hearing about the current state of education in Mission. Hundreds of Mission families joined us for our 21st Annual National Night Out! Thank you to the community for all of the support and involvement! Our Mission Police Chief, along with members of our Mission Crime Stoppers, spoke to Valley teens about the negative effects of drugs, alcohol, and cyber-bullying at the Unidad Coalition’s Teen Summer Youth Conference in Mission. Our Mission Mayor and City Council recognize Mission CISD’s former Coach and Athletic Director, Rosendo (Roy) Garcia, for all of his accomplishments throughout his coaching career, especially his recent induction into the Texas High School Coaches Association Hall of Honor. Mission Firefighters spent more than 40 hours battling a Mutual Aid Alarm Fire in Rio Grande City. We had a great night at Family Movie Night on the Lawn at our Mission Historical Museum! Join us the last Thursday in July, for the final movie! Jetta is the newest featured pet in our City of Mission Adopt a Pet Program. She is believed to be 2 years old and a Chihuahua/Yorkie Mix. For more information: 580-8741. Mission girls and boys learned about pulley systems through the Enginuity Program at our Boys and Girls Club of Mission. The program is designed to create a pipeline of future Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) professionals who will strengthen our local manufacturing base. Hundreds of kids in Mission are learning the love of reading through our Summer Reading Program at our Speer Memorial Library!
