The money will be used to purchase games, puzzles, and activities for our Speer Memorial Library’s Children’s Department! Through our Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG), the City of Mission just handed over the keys to three new houses! Our Speer Memorial Library hosts Lego Robotics classes to help students improve their engineering, math, physics and problem solving skills, all while having fun. Have you seen the results of our Conway Streetscape Project at night, yet? This is what it looks like! We reconstructed sidewalks with pavers and we added benches, planters, lights, and palm trees. City Leaders from Villa del Carbon, Mexico, took a tour of our beautiful Mission. The City of Mission strengthens ties with Mexico, signing Villa del Carbon, Estado de Mexico, as a Sister City. Our Mission Mayor Beto Salinas and Mission City Council proclaim August 31, 2015, as “The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Day.” Our Mayor Beto Salinas and a small delegation from Mission recently returned from Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo, Mexico, where they signed a Sister City Agreement. The Mission Historical Museum conducted a workshop with community members to design educational exhibits for the public. Our Boys and Girls Club of Mission held an end of summer celebration for the kids and a kick-off to start the school year! Thanks for a great Summer Program! We have a new pet ready for adoption!
