Mission TX – Mission Historical Museum – “Afro-Mexican Spaces and Legacies on the Lower Rio Grande” Our Mayor Beto Salinas was honored to be the first guest interviewed on the new set of Noticias Valle del Rio Grande. Mayor Salinas spoke about the City of Mission’s Community Development Block Grant Program during the Nuestra Comunidad Segment. Teens from our Boys and Girls Club of Mission challenged our Mission Police Officers to a friendly game of basketball! Our Mission Police Officers won the game, but the Club took home the real win when our Mission Crime Stoppers donated $250 to the Club’s Girls’ All-Star Softball Team that is headed to the playoffs. Mission TX – City Council Meeting 07/10/2017 Seven new police officers have joined our Mission Police Department! The City welcomed them to the Force with a Swearing-In Ceremony. We wish them safe and successful law enforcement careers as they work to serve and protect our Community. Congratulations to Raymond Gonzalez on his 20 years of service to the City of Mission and our Fleet Services! Gonzalez maintained vehicles and equipment and made sure the City ran smoothly. We wish Mr. Gonzalez the best in his retirement and thank him for his many years of dedication to the City of Mission! The City of Mission said “Thank You” to Mission Police K-9 “Cezar” for his 8 years of service to our Mission Police Department! Cezar, a Narcotics and Tracking K-9, is retiring, and we are proud of the service he and his Handler, Alexandria Leal, have provided to our City! Two more Mission families now have new homes thanks to our Community Development Block Grant Program! Over the past 17 years, the City of Mission, through our CDBG Program, has built over 400 homes to assist those in need in our Community. Mission TX – City Council Meeting 6/26/2017 Mission Texas – Temporary Home for Families in need 06/27/2017 The City of Mission now has a 2nd Safe Haven Home! A Safe Haven Home is a home that will be used as a temporary shelter (approximately three months) for people who have certain emergencies – families who have been evicted from homes for lack of payment due to medical or loss of job, families who lost their homes to fire, hurricane, storm, etc. The Safe Haven House will be used to accommodate those emergencies until the residents find permanent housing for themselves. To recognize the support the City of Mission has played in the lives of Mission students – Mission CISD presented the City of Mission and its City Council the “Stand Up for Texas Public Schools” recognition from the Texas Association of School Boards! We are honored. A little heat didn’t keep Valley golfers from taking part in the 14th Annual Mission Crime Stoppers Golf Tournament at our Shary Municipal Golf Course! Thank you to all of the participants! Your participation will help fight crime in our City! Kids taking part in our Speer Memorial Library’s Summer Reading Program enjoyed a motivational stunt show presented by juggler/magician Matt Tardy! The purpose of the performance was to show the children the importance of having a healthy mind and body. Texas Legislators, members of the Texas Workforce Commission, and RGV coding students gathered at our Mission EDC in celebration of the Governor signing into law legislation that allows computer science classes to count as core credits.
