Our Speer Memorial Library held its “End of the Summer Party” at Ray Landry Fireman’s Park for kids who completed the five book minimum requirement of the Library’s Summer Reading Program! In all, 225 kids registered to be a part of this year’s Program! Thank you to our Speer Memorial Library for promoting the love of reading in Mission! Our Mission Historical Museum held the first movie in its Summer Movies on the Lawn Series! Families enjoyed an entertaining evening at our Hollis Rutledge Park. MISSION RESIDENTS: We have teamed up with the Food Bank of the RGV to provide food, water and cleaning supplies to those affected by the recent floods. Thursday, July 26th, at 4PM, at our CWV Park (115. S. Mayberry) in Mission. City of Mission Officials held a Press Briefing with FEMA to announce the opening of FEMA’s Disaster Recovery Center at our City of Mission Social Event Center (115 South Mayberry Rd). Starting Thursday, July 19th, the Center will remain open Monday – Friday, from 7AM to 7PM. Residents can also apply for assistance by calling FEMA at (800) 621-3362. Through our Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG), the City of Mission handed over house keys to three Mission families – including one family who lost their home to a fire. Using Federal Funds, our City of Mission CDBG Program provides housing services to Mission Residents who are low to moderate income. The woman who adopted Penny, a former Mission Pawsible Pet, wrote this note “To whomever abandoned this little dog…I want to thank you! She is the best little dog. Loves to cuddle, doesn’t bark, is potty trained. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this dog.” We are glad Penny found someone who loves her! Bryan Rd. in Mission held its Grand Opening, complete with a fly-over, food, beer, and live music! The City of Mission and RGV Low Cost Spay Neuter Clinic held an “Animal Wellness Day” at our Mission Parks and Recreation, offering our four legged friends access to low cost vaccines and a variety of health services. City of Mission Crews were hard at work at our Mission Hike and Bike Trails clearing debris, trimming trees, and picking-up trash as part of our “CLEAN UP THE TRAILS” Volunteer Day. Mission TX – Police Department Pinning Ceremony The City of Mission held a Pinning Ceremony for the promotions of our Mission Police Officers.
