The City of Mission activated its Emergency Operation Center at our Mission Central Fire Station. Our City of Mission Mayor, Council Members, Staff, Public Works, Police, and Fire worked throughout the evening. Thankfully, no rescues have been needed – only calls for stranded vehicles. The City is working in conjunction with the Hidalgo County Emergency Management Center and receiving assistance from the Hidalgo Co. Irrigation #6 with pumping operations.
Thank you, HEB, for sending staff to our Mission Fire Department’s Central Station, Station 3, and Station 5 to show appreciation for everything our Mission Firefighters do! We appreciate the support!

Mission City Council conducted a civil service workshop to discuss the needs of our civil service employees before the final budget is approved for 2018/2019.
Have you seen the new traffic signals the Texas Department of Transportation is placing around Mission? The traffic lights feature a FLASHING YELLOW left turn signal and are becoming the new standard across the nation. We’ve posted some reminders of what the FLASHING YELLOW left turn signal means.
The Food Bank RGV INC presented a “Healthy Eating for Successful Living” class at our Speer Memorial to help Residents build healthy food and physical activity habits by offering resources, tips, and ideas that can help people take charge and learn to make healthy choices. The group will hold another class on September the 15th at 10AM. Contact the Library at 580-8750 for more information.
Thank you to our Mission Firefighters who dedicated their time and efforts to “Fill the Boot” and raise money to help find a cure for muscular dystrophy, ALS, and other related diseases, AND thank you to our Community for helping to make this boot drive a successful one!

Our City of Mission Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program held a “Welcome Home” event for another Mission family – providing keys to a new home! Mission’s CDBG Program offers housing assistance for Mission Residents who qualify – including repairing existing homes or constructing new homes. To learn more about our CDBG Program, call 580-8670.
The City of Mission Collaborative Model Mission Fire Department Collective Departmental Improvement Committee held a meeting. Our Mayor Dr. Armando O’Caña organized this Committee to identify and fix any current issues and plan for the future of the Department. The ultimate goal is to create a 10 year plan for the Mission Fire Department.

Our Mission Mayor and City Council recognized Mary Cruz – a Utility Billing Supervisor with our Water Department – who is retiring after 38 years of service to the City of Mission! Mary Cruz is one of the longest tenured employees who has ever worked for the City of Mission. Mary Cruz has been a blessing and an asset to our City and we thank her for her many years of service!
