Our Mission Firefighters were on the streets of Mission fighting for kids and adults with muscular dystrophy, ALS and other related life-threatening diseases – by “Filling the Boot.” We have a gallery of photos from the Earth Day Celebration at the National Butterfly Center in Mission! Kids AND adults had a great time learning and exploring in the great outdoors! U.S. Senator John Cornyn visited Mission’s Anzalduas International Bridge where he received a plaque for his work on the bridge system and spoke with our Mayor Beto Salinas and other RGV and Mexico leaders. The City of Mission held a pinning ceremony for Rene Alvarez of our Mission Fire Department. Alvarez has been named Mission’s Assistant Fire Chief. We congratulate Assistant Fire Chief Alvarez on his new title! The City of Mission held a Swearing-in Ceremony for our new Fire Chief, Gilbert Sanchez. Chief Sanchez was previously the City of Mission’s Fire Marshal and the Interim Fire Chief. We congratulate Chief Gilbert Sanchez on his new position! Thank you to our Speer Memorial Library for placing free books in our Council Chambers as part of National Library Week! Our Mission Mayor and City Council declare the week of April 9-15, 2017, to be “National Library Week” in Mission! We encourage all residents to visit the library this week and explore what’s new. We thank our Librarians for spreading knowledge and the love of reading throughout our Community! The City of Mission Mayor and City Council designate the month of April as “FAIR HOUSING MONTH” in Mission – Fair Housing Equals Opportunity! Mission has designated the week of April 17–22, 2017, as “National Community Development Week” – Celebrating Success in Your Community!
