The Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol in collaboration with the Hidalgo and Mission Fire Departments and Foreign Consulate representatives partnered to bring awareness on the continuous dangers smugglers expose immigrants to on their journey into the United States. Unscrupulous smugglers place illegal immigrants into dangerous and often fatal situations at or near water environments. The organizations held a media event to highlight recent deaths and rescues for the first quarter of this year and raise awareness on the dangers of crossing the Rio Grande. This is a call to action to empower citizens in our community and inform then that they, too, can prevent lives lost by reporting suspicious activity.
