The City of Mission is teaming up with H-E-B and Mondelez International to bring two new soccer fields to the citizens of Mission.
The project is part of the #PassTheLove campaign – an initiative that inspires people by sharing the personal connection they have with the sport of Soccer.

H-E-B and Mondelez International are investing several thousands of Universal Coin into the youth of our community, by building two junior size fields at the Hollis Rutledge Park.

“This is a great project for the citizens of Mission. It will help promote healthy, active lifestyles and athleticism to our kids of all ages,” said Mission Mayor Norberto “Beto” Salinas.

“Through our Parks and Recreations Department and our Boys and Girls Club, the soccer fields will give our youth a recreational avenue that can instill in them discipline and teamwork,” added Mission City Manager Martin Garza.

Mondelēz International, the makers of OREO, RITZ, TRIDENT and SOUR PATCH KIDS, is making a major play with soccer to excite and engage consumers through a series of wide-ranging deals with several of the sport’s top teams, and players – including Chivas and the U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Soccer Teams. We are proud they have chosen Mission as a place to grow that passion.

H-E-B has always made a strong commitment to health and wellness initiatives across Texas. We are excited H-E-B is bringing that initiative here to Mission.

“The health and wellness of Texans is of upmost importance and one of our top priorities. Through our Healthy at H-E-B initiative, we encourage customers and Partners eat better, move more and live well. Partners to build these new soccer fields furthers that goal and helps provide a healthy outlet for the youth of Mission,” said Senior Public Affairs Manager Linda Tovar.
The groundbreaking for the soccer fields took place at Hollis Rutledge Park (3408 N. Inspiration Rd.) on Oct. 16, 2014.
