Mission City Council Meeting 04-25-2016 Our Community Development Block Grant Department held a meeting with applicants on what to expect in the coming months as things get in order for them to get their new houses! Mission’s CDBG Program provides housing assistance for residents who qualify – including repairing existing homes or constructing new homes. Our Mission Crime Stoppers, with help from United Health Care, gave a presentation to the Mission community on the dangers of drugs and the benefits of healthy eating, recipes, and exercise. Our Mayor and City Council declare the month of May as Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month in the City of Mission. Drivers of all other vehicles and all road users are reminded to safely “share the road” with motorcyclists, and to be extra alert to help keep motorcyclists safe. The City of Mission Mayor and City Council proclaim May 15th – May 21st as “NATIONAL POLICE WEEK” in Mission – to commemorate police officers past and present. Furthermore, the City of Mission declares Monday, May 16th, as “PEACE OFFICERS MEMORIAL DAY” – to honor peace officers who, through their courageous deeds, have lost their lives or have become disabled in the performance of duty. Members of our Mission Police Department play an essential role in safeguarding the rights and freedoms of our citizens of Mission, and we honor them for their courageous service. We had a terrific Saturday night of celebrating the arts with poetry and music at our Mission Historical Museum! Thank you to everyone who volunteered at our Boys and Girls Club of Mission’s City-Wide Trash Bash! We appreciate your help in keeping Mission beautiful! The City of Mission thanks the community for taking part in our Crime Victims’ Rights Week Walk and Vigil. Did you know volunteers with our Traffic Safety Committee meet every month at the Mission Police Department to discuss areas of concern in our City? We thank them for working to make our City streets safer! “I’m a 2 month old boy who is ready for a family! If you would like to adopt me, call the City of Mission Adopt a Pet Program at 580-8741. And, please hurry!” Visitors to our Speer Memorial Library enjoyed listening to a presentation by Joe Vidales on the story of Rio Rico: One Town, Two Countries and the “Lost” Americans. Our Mission Historical Museum continued its series of historical lectures. Local history enthusiast, Amancio J. Chapa, Jr., took us through one family’s journey from Italy to our present day City, to help tell the story of early Mission. Mission Police Investigator Romeo Ortega, with our Mission Crime Stoppers Program, gave a drug awareness presentation to teachers at Sharyland Pioneer High School – educating them on the current drug trends and providing the teachers with tools to encourage students to think critically about how drugs and drug abuse can affect them today and the choices they make for tomorrow. Our Mission Police Department held a walk and a vigil in honor of “National Crime Victims’ Rights Week.” This year’s theme — “Serving Victims. Building Trust. Restoring Hope” — highlights the importance of early intervention and victim services in establishing trust with victims, which in turn begins to restore their hope for healing and recovery. Mission City Council Meeting 04-11-2016 Have you seen the new butterfly outside our Mission City Hall? You can expect to see several more varieties of butterflies throughout the City, soon! It’s all part of a project headed by the Upper Valley Art League. The City of Mission contributed to the local art league who, through volunteers, created the butterflies to be displayed outside various City buildings and our Downtown. We hope you enjoy this beautification project! ‹ Previous«104105106107108»Next ›
