Our City of Mission Mayor Dr. Armando O’Caña and City Council proclaim the month of November and November 14th as “American Diabetes Month and World Diabetes Day” and “Everyday Reality” in the City of Mission. We encourage all citizens to recognize American Diabetes Month and join the American Diabetes Association’s Stop Diabetes movement to confront, fight and most importantly, change the future of this deadly disease.
The City of Mission was host to the Hidalgo County Health and Human Services and South Texas Immunization Coalition’s “15th annual Epidemiology and Immunizations Conference and Zika Workshop” at our Mission Event Center. Topics for this year’s conference included: Reporting Notifiable Conditions, Zika & Mosquito-Borne Illnesses, Epidemiology Updates, Tuberculosis, Vaccine Preventable Diseases, TVFC Updates. Thank you to the HCHHS and the STIC for choosing to host public health initiatives in our City!
The City of Mission was proud to be one of only two cities in the Valley hosting the Workforce Solution’s 2018 “Hiring Red, White, and You!“ Veteran’s Job Fair at our Mission Event Center. Over 80 businesses were onsite to assist veterans, service members, and their spouses with their next career opportunity, and to provide information on services available for veterans. Over the past six years, Hiring Red, White & You! has connected more than 71,800 Texas veterans with over 10,300 employers
Our City of Mission Directors took part in a workshop to ensure our employees are providing the citizens of Mission with the best service possible. The workshop, called the City of Mission Intervention System (COMIS), is designed to help City Departments develop SMART goals and strategies to improve effectiveness. During the workshop, City of Mission Directors identified how their department’s work contributes to Mission’s overall vision. The Directors will be meeting to check their progress quarterly. Service to our citizens is our top priority.

The City of Mission ranks among the Top 20 Best Places in the Country to Trick-or-Treat in 2018 – coming in at #19! In its fifth annual study, SmartAsset analyzed 258 U.S. cities across metrics including crime rates, housing density, and historical weather data for October 31st to find the best spots. We couldn’t agree more with their findings!
