Public Works Department
The Mission Public Works Department oversees the Streets and Health Departments. The Water and Wastewater/Utilities Department has provided the City of Mission with water service since 1908 through water wells and then since 1926, to the present with river water treatment plants. The wastewater or sewer service started in the early 1940s. The Department consistently provides the City of Mission, which has more than 23,000 customers and a population of over 60,000, with safe drinking water and environmentally compliant treated sewer service.
The Department is divided into 4 branches or subsections that accomplish the task of providing these public safety and health services: Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Wastewater/Sewer Collection, and Wastewater Treatment.
The Department is headed by a Public Works Director who has first-hand knowledge of water and wastewater (sewer) treatment and is well-versed in state and federal regulations for these types of services. For support staff, the director has a department head secretary who manages requisition and purchase order duties and one clerical/dispatcher.
