Mission Mayor Dr. Armando O’Caña commented on the Battle of Conway at Tom Landry Stadium.

“It was an honor to be a part of the ribbon cutting of the newly renovated Tom Landry Stadium and Mission Aquatics Center, the honoring of the RGV Hall of Fame Inductees, the honoring of the children as part of Go for Gold, and to see such great sportsmanship between two of our hometown football teams. It was a grand honor to see Mr. Oton Guerrero do the official coin toss and have him share the field with his son Tony, who was head referee for the game. Congratulations to the Guerrero family and to the Mission Eagles! Coach Detmer and Coach Gilpin, I congratulate you on your programs and your teams. May you have continued success. I also want to congratulate Dr. Carolina Perez, Mission CISD Board of Trustees, AD Lety Ibarra, the Go for Gold staff, the RGV Hall of Fame Organization, and all of the MCISD staff for your hard work to make the night possible.

The Battle of Conway brought our community as one to celebrate football, students, faith, and community. The most emotional part for me was seeing the courage that the children being honored as part of Go for Gold displayed. These children are fighting and some have fought a battle that I pray none of you ever have to fight. These children are warriors, survivors, and our angels here on earth. It makes so much of what is going on in life get into perspective. It really is all about Faith Family and Friends. God bless you Mission, Texas. #ONEmission #togetherwecan #missionproud#missionSTRONG” – Mayor Dr. Armando O’Caña.
