Mission hosting street dedication in honor of fallen military hero

The City of Mission will commemorate a fallen military hero with a street dedication Thursday, April 14 at 10 a.m. The roadway on Doherty Avenue from E. 1st Street northward to 8th Street will now be called Roberto A. Bourbois Street.

Pfc. Bourbois died in the Battle of Leyte Gulf in the Philippines on Nov. 2, 1944 in World War II. He was a native of Mission and had been overseas for 9 months when he was killed in action. He received his training at Fort Sam Houston. Before joining the military, Infantryman Bourbois was employed as a truck driver for Mission Fruit and Vegetable Company.
