Mission hosting street dedication in honor of community pillar

The City of Mission will commemorate a community leader with a street dedication Thursday, February 10 at 4:30 p.m. The roadway on the corner of 1st and Miller will now be called Ruben Rodriguez Street.

“Mr. Rodriguez was a beloved, respected, and selfless citizen of the City of Mission, one who dedicated himself to strengthening our community and enriching the lives of local residents,” Mayor Dr. Armando O’Caña said. “Having this street in his honor is a fitting tribute to a man who dedicated so much of his life to the betterment of his community and neighbors.”

Rodriguez, who passed away last year, served the City of Mission in many different capacities. He was a board member for the City of Mission Parks and Recreation and band booster member and president for many years. He was also a pillar in his local church community. Rodriguez was a fixture at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, serving as a Eucharistic minister.
