There is great news for families in the City of Mission. City leaders held a groundbreaking Friday March 22, 2019, for the Bannworth Boys & Girls Club Gym expansion.

The move will transform the current location into a second full service unit. The center will service elementary and middle schools in the Sharyland area and the goal is to provide more accessibility to the Boys & Girls Club in Mission.

“This project is a clear indication of the continued progress that our city is experiencing. Thank you to our Mayor, City Council, and Boys and Girls Club of Mission Board for having the vision to provide amenities for our children to prepare them for the future,” said City Manager Randy Perez.

The idea for the expansion came from a 5th grader at Sharyland, who asked the Mayor why he had to travel across town to attend the Boys and Girls Club of Mission.

“Children can serve you well if you listen. Listening to children is the future of Mission,” – said Mayor Dr. Armando O’Caña.

Mayor Dr. O’Caña says the rest is history.

The expansion will include office space, restrooms and four new classrooms to include a computer lab for students in the after school program. The 4,050 square foot addition should be complete by Fall of 2019.
