The City of Mission is breaking barriers. Former Councilwoman for Place 3, Norie Gonzalez Garza, was sworn in June 20, 2022 as mayor. She was joined by officials from across the RGV as she officially took her oath of office at the Mission Event Center.
Gonzalez Garza, a lifelong resident of the municipality, is the first woman to be elected mayor of Mission.
Jessica Ortega, a two time incumbent for City Council Place 1, was sworn in for her third term.
