Mission TX – Halloween Safety Tips 2015 The Mission Police Department wishes everyone a safe and fun Halloween with a few safety tips for parents. City leaders unveiled the five new Tahoes our officers will now have to better protect and serve our great community. Our Mayor and City Council receive a gift of appreciation from Mayor David Gustavo Flores Lavenant of our Sister City – Francisco I. Madero, Coahuila, Mexico. The “Asociacion de Ciudades Hermanas de Americas A.C.,” whose members come from the Mexican states of Guanajuato, Jalisco, and Coahuila, chose to hold its Board of Director’s Meeting in the City of Mission. Mission is honored to have been chosen as the Host City. Our Mission Crime Stoppers completed the 27th Annual Texas Crime Stoppers Conference in Brownsville. It was a great opportunity for our Mission Crime Stoppers to learn about the latest updates on laws, get fundraising ideas, and network with other Crime Stoppers organizations througout the Valley. Our Speer Memorial Library held its annual Halloween Costume Contest. Our Mysteries at the Boo!seum Family Festival is coming up on Saturday of Halloween. The City of Mission would like to say “THANK YOU” to these generous sponsors who helped make our annual Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon possible! Mission holds the luncheon every October, for City employees, as a way to remind our employees about the importance of prevention, early detection and intervention. Mission TX – National Butterfly Center – Monarch Conservation Badge Program “I think they are important because they give color to the world.” Girl Scout Troops visit the National Butterfly Center in Mission and earn their Monarch Conservation Badges. Did you know the Monarch is the State Butterfly of Texas? Monarchs matter! Our Mission Crime Stoppers, along with McGruff, taught students at Mission’s Mims Elementary about Halloween safety. The City of Mission has started spraying for mosquitoes. We spray on a complaint basis. If you live in Mission, and notice a problem with mosquitoes, report the location to our City of Mission Health Department at 580-8741.
