Train to become a Mission CERT volunteer and help your Community in a time of need.

Mission CERT at Firestoppers 100 mile bike race

Mission CERT manning McCook water station
Our Mission CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) recently operated a water/first aid station for the RGV Firefighter & Fire Marshals Association Fire Stoppers Run & Ride. The volunteers were stationed at McCook, which is the 60 mile marker for the 100 mile bike race. If you are interested in training to become a CERT volunteer, contact Fire Chief Rene Lopez at rlopezjr@missiontexas.us.

A description of a CERT volunteer can be found on FEMA’s webpage: “CERT educates individuals about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT volunteers can assist others in their community following a disaster when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT volunteers are also encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking an active role in emergency preparedness projects.”
