Our City of Mission Mayor and Council honored the original National Night Out Committee whose members started the program in Mission, 23 years ago. Thank you for creating an event that has grown to make a huge difference in our Community! The City of Mission congratulates the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Rose of Lima #827, on their 95th Anniversary and wish them continued success! The City of Mission proclaims October 16th as “National Feral Cat Day” in Mission – to educate the Community about the importance of Trap/Neuter/Return. Congratulations to the winners of the 2018 Annual Banquet and Chamber Choice Awards, hosted by the Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce and the Progress Times! Our City of Mission Deputy City Manager, Aida Lerma, received the much-deserved Government Excellence Award! And, our City of Mission Parks and Recreation Director, Brad Bentsen, along with Maxilou Link, were honored as Mr. Mission and First Lady of Mission, respectively! We thank all of the recipients for their contributions to our great City! Thank you for another successful National Night Out in the City of Mission – building camaraderie between our law enforcement and our Community! Mission’s newly renovated Leo Peña Placita Park is open and ready for play! Located at the corner of Business 83 and Conway Avenue, the historic Leo Peña Placita Park has undergone significant upgrades. The City of Mission held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to debut the new features, just in time for the City’s National Night Out Event! In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the City of Mission encourages our Employees to participate in supporting the cause by purchasing a T-shirt they can wear every Friday in the month of October (the Employees compete to create the winning T-shirt’s design)! The City also hosts a Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon at our Mission Event Center. We hope these events serve to educate our Employees on the importance of early screening and early detection. The City of Mission is in support of the Hidalgo County Drainage District’s upcoming $190 Million Dollar Bond to improve our Drainage System. Watch as Hidalgo Co. Commissioners explain the Bond during a recent City Council Workshop. MISSION RESIDENTS: The Hidalgo Co. Drainage District will have a booth at our National Night Out on Thursday, October 4th, to give Mission Residents information on the upcoming $190 Million Drainage Improvement Bond Election. Maranatha Radio teamed up with several RGV non-profit organizations to host the 3rd Annual Healthy Families, Healthy Communities 5k Run/Walk. The purpose of the 5K is to promote, build and sustain community partnerships, and enhance the ability of families to provide a secure and nurturing environment. Shary Elementary’s “See You at the Pole” event – a global day of student led prayer! Our Mission Fire Department will have an Open House as part of Fire Prevention Week in the City of Mission! Join us for FREE fun and games – October the 8th! Mark your calendars for our Mission Historical Museum’s upcoming Dia de los Muertos Festival! Our Mission City Council had a special guest – Kelsey Villalobos – a 5th grader at Mims Elementary who will be running for Mustangville City Council Place 1! Mustangville is a minitropolis at Mims, designed to mirror a fully functioning community. Kelsey posed for pictures with our Mission City Council Members, including our own City Council Place 1 Member Jessica Ortega-Ochoa!
