October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the City of Mission held its annual Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon. We hold the luncheon for our City employees – to remind them about the importance of prevention, early detection and intervention. Thank you to the HUNDREDS of citizens who joined us at our Mission Fire Department’s Open House! We appreciate the support of the community as the City kicks off “Fire Prevention Month.” Mission Firefighters will spend the month of October visiting Mission schools, teaching children and the public about fire safety. Thank you to the thousands who joined us in Mission for the MRMC Mission Pink Walk/Run for Breast Cancer Awareness! More than 3500 people came out to support this great event! The City of Mission hands over house keys to another Mission family through our Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program. These 42 men and women graduated from the Lower Rio Grande Valley Regional Police Academy and Mission Police Department Police Academy! The graduates will serve as law enforcement officers throughout the Valley. We wish them safe and successful careers as they protect and serve! Thank you to Absolute Services for donating this “Fire Alarm Panel Prop” to our Mission Fire Department! A majority of businesses in Mission use these types of alarm panels, and now our firefighters can train on what to expect when they enter a burning building equipped with similar panels. Congratulations to Mission Police Officer Gilberto Izquierdo for his more than 23 years of service to our Mission Police Department! Fellow City employees and City leaders sent “Lefty” off with a retirement party – thanking him for his many years of dedication to Mission! Our Mission Firefighters are training to forcibly enter a burning home or business. The South Texas College Fire Academy loaned us this “forcible entry door prop” to better ensure the safety of our Mission residents. Congratulations to our City of Mission Finance Department for earning the “GFOA Certificate Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting” for the Fiscal Year 2013-2014 Annual Audit Report! Kids are starting volleyball practice at our Boys and Girls Club of Mission, and it is not too late to register. Call 585-3606 for more information. Mission Animal Control found a litter of 6 puppies! Please help us find them a home. The brothers and sisters are believed to be black lab mixes, about 3 months old. Please contact our Adopt-A-Pet Program at 580-8741 or 222-1007. Our Mission Police Officers inspected a number of child car safety seats at Mission Regional Medical Center. We appreciate the many parents who took the time and effort to ensure their kids are safe! Members of The Texas Association of Museums Council toured the beautiful Rio Grande River during their visit to Mission. Director Luis Contreras and the Mission Historical Museum are hosting the state association’s annual retreat this year. Our Mission Historical Museum’s 9th Annual Dinner Banquet was a success! Thank you to everyone who joined us for an evening of fun fundraising for future MHM projects. Mission residents had a chance to meet some of our local police and fire fighter heroes last night at Chick-fil-A in Mission. The restaurant held an event for community members to interact with our local law enforcement and first responders. We enjoyed getting a chance to talk with the community we serve! The City of Mission would like to congratulate Randy Perez on his promotion from Finance Director to Mission’s Deputy City Manager. ‹ Previous«5354555657»Next ›
