We collected a number of toys at Walgreens for our Mission Crime Stopper’s and Mission Police Department’s City-wide Toy Drive! We will hand out over 1000 toys to more than 350 families in need at our Toy Give-a-way on Friday, December 18, at our Mission Police Department. It’s not too late to donate – Bring your unwrapped toys to drop-off boxes throughout Mission, at Mission Walgreens, or the Mission Police Department – now through December 15. Thank you to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection for donating 10 bikes to the City of Mission Christmas Tree Lighting’s Toy Raffle! The City of Mission handed out Thanksgiving meals to more than 70 families in need in our community. Our Mayor, City Council, City Manager, Fire, Police, Crime Stoppers, and City Staff distributed the meals door to door on Tuesday, November the 24th. The families will be able to prepare a traditional meal, with all of the fixings, on Thanksgiving Day. Our Speer Memorial Library’s Give ‘N Gobble Turkey Trot was a success! The Library collected a number of non-perishable items, as part of the 5K’s entry fee, and these will go to families in need in our community. Our Mission Mayor and City Council met with some of our young, talented Mission residents during our council meeting – Miss Jr. Teen Sofia Lopez, Little Miss Isla Flores, and Miss Mission Teen Maya Martinez. “Tipster”- Our Mission Crime Stoppers’ new mascot – made his debut appearance at our City Council meeting, shaking hands with Mission City Leaders! Thank you to all of our community leaders and citizens who joined us at the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of Mission’s newest Neighborhood Park – Arnulfo “Tatan” Rodriguez, Jr. Park! Thank you to everyone who made the week special for our City of Mission Employees, including providing them with an Employee Appreciation Luncheon! We appreciate all that our City Employees do to help make Mission “The Place to Be”! Mission Police Chief Robert Dominguez spoke to Despierta Valle about our upcoming Toy Drive. Our Mission Police Dept. and Mission Crime Stoppers were happy to take part in the Unidad coalition’s Community Interventions Conference – working to make a stronger, healthier, safer, drug-free RGV. The City of Mission held an Appreciation Luncheon to say “Thank You” to City Employees for their hardwork and dedication to our great City! Through our City of Mission Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG), another Mission family has a new home! Congratulations to the homeowner!
