La Joya Independent School District is 226 square miles of land in western Hidalgo County. The district’s area starts west of Mission and ends in Sullivan City. La Joya ISD has 32 campuses: 21 elementary schools, 6 middle schools, 3 high schools, an alternative education center and the HOPE Academy. More than 4,260 people are employed by La Joya ISD.

Experiencing rapid growth, La Joya ISD had more than 24,000 students enrolled during the 2006-2007 school year. Of the student body, more than 99% were Hispanic. Because of the population growth, there are frequently construction projects under way to keep up with educational demands in the area.

The goal of La Joya Independent School District is to provide a safe academic environment that will challenge every student and prepare each one for higher education opportunities.
